1. 위트 넘치는 비유표현들

 

힘에 부친다..   out of one's hand

누구 손에 달렸다..   be in one's hands

현실을 받아 들여라..   let's face it

확실하다 (불보듯 뻔하다)..   as plain as the nose on your face

서로돕자..   you scratch my back, i'll scratch yours

사소한데 집착하다 (목숨걸다)..   split hairs

나쁜날..   bad hair day

일진이 안좋은..   got off on the wrong foot today,   got out of the wrong side of the bed,

                         this is no my day,     this is not my lucky day.

식은죽 먹기..     it was like taking candy from a baby

아주쉽다..    don't sweat it,    no sweat

변하지 않는..    die hard,    never change

실패로 끝난일..    go down the tubes,    go up in smoke

이러지도 저러지도 못하다..   be on the rocks,    between a rock and a place,

                                      i'm damned if i do and damned if i don't

문득 생각나다..   ring a bell,   got it

아주 바쁘다..  tied up,   my hands are full,   i don't have enough time to think,

                  i'm so busy i don't know what direction i'm headed,

냉대를 받다..    cold shoulder

게으르게 뒹굴거리는 사람..   couch potato,   veg out around the house

푹자..    sleep tight

행운이 계속되길 바래..    knock on wood

됐으면 좋겠다..    keep your fingers crossed,    cross your fingers.

약속 합니다..   i give you my word,  cross my heart,   hope to die, 

                       stick a needle in my eye,    i promise

포기 하지마..   stick to ~

실패도 재산이야 (좋은 공부가 됐을거야..댓구법)..  you live,    you learn

                       다른 댓구표현의 ..   you lie,   you die.   you talk,  you walk.

준비완료..   all systems go

선착순!!..  first come,  first served.   it's first come.   first-come basis.   first-come system.

불행과 분노를 달랠때..  it's not the end of the earth

 

 

 

2. 네이티브의 콧대를 납작하게 하는 말들

 

꿈깨..   get real

구제불능이다..   you never learn

당연한거 아냐?..   what do you expect?

말려도 듣지 않아서 멋대로 해라고할때..   it's your funeral

어쩔수 없다고 할때..   water under the bridge

충고를 듣지 않을때..  suit yourself,  have it your way,   suit yourself

대답하고 싶지않은 질문에는..   maybe yes,  maybe no

우유부단한 친구에게..   that's your problem,  it's up to you,  the decision is up to you

쓸데없는 질문에 대꾸할때..   who knows?,  i don't know,   good question,

                                      why are you asking me?,    how should i know?

지각한 사람에게 한마디 할때..   better late than never

 

 

 

3. 회의와 협상의 말들 

 

뒷일은 당신에게 달렷어요..  the ball's in your court,   it's (all)up to you,

                                      it's your responsibility now

마지막 카드를 제시할때..   take it or leave it

깨진 협상을 마무리 할때..  we agree to disagree on this

일의 진전을 표현할때..   so far,  so good.

                                               pretty goo (not very good, nothing's gone right),  so far.

잘못된걸 지적할때 우회적으로..  i must be missing something.

                                           i'm not clear on something.   i'm getting confused.

의견을 애매하게 받아 넘길깨..  i appreciate your insight

얼버 무릴때..   i'll take it under consideration.   i'll think about it.

                                        i'll give it some serious thought.

빠른 일처리를 부탁할때..   the sooner,   the better

비관적인 사람에게..    we'll cross that bridge when we get to it

우선순위에 관한말들..  first things first

낙관이나 비관을 경계할때..  let's hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

                                        hope is not a solution.

비즈니스 경구..   think slowly,  act quickly.   think ahead and don't rush.

                      think big but start small.   more haste,  less speed.

 

 

 

4. 간단해도 뉘앙스까지 전하는 말들

 

감탄사로..      man긍정적 의미,    boy긍정 부정적 의미 (..)

부가의문문 처리..    huh?/  excuse me. pardon. what was that?  please say that again.

                        one more time,  please?

여운을 주면서 표현하는..  well..    ..,  ..,  ..,  ..,  ..

사려깊은 사람이되고 싶을때..   oh.. 

웬만한 부탁은 요걸로..   do me a favor

막문이 막힐때 시간을 버는..  ah,  uh,  mm,  you know..

리스닝의 문제네(그게 뭐더라,그거 말이야)..  what do you call it = whajamacallit

그럴지도 몰라요라구 얼버무릴때..  i never know.  no one knows.  who knows.

그저 그래(better)..   been (seen, toasted) better

.............(worse)..  been (seen, toasted) worse

최고다..                  ....................................

말바꾸거나 고칠때..  i mean. you mean.

의심스러운말에 대꾸할때.. i'll believe it when i see it.   i'd like to see it with my own eyes.

귀찮은 사람을 정중히 물리칠때..  spare me.  leave me alone.   don't bother(bug) me.

맘상하지 않게 상대를 꾸짖을때..  that's so unlike you

톤에 따라서도 의미가 달라지는..  great (대단해, 심하군),

                             you heard me (들렸어?, 얼버무리지마), very funny (재밌다, 재미없다)

화제를 바꾸거나 매듭질때..   well.  okay.  all right.

뭔가를 알아채고 말할때.. now (, 그런데, 이봐, 그럼, 그렇지)

믿거나 말거나..  believe it or not

조심스럽게 의견을, 어느 쪽인가 하면..  i guess

 

 

 

5. 부탁 거절 변명을 세련되게 하는 말들

 

내가     원하는바를 부드럽게 돌려서..   it might (could) be better if

상대가  ......................................  you might want to

부탁을 어른스럽게 거절할때..  i would if i could,   but i can't.   i can't.

세련되게 충고할때..  if i were you.   you might think about.

성격이나 특징을 추측해서 말할때..  you must be

담에 하께요..   rain check

가벼운 부탁..    i was wondering if you'd

나쁜뜻은 없었어..  don't get me wrong.  i didn't mean to.  don't misunderstand me.

                        don't get the wrong impression.   it's nothing personal.

부드럽게 말할때(주어옆에)..  i ah.   you ah.   we ah.   it's ah.   she's ah

형편을 말할때..   afford

 

 

 

6. 품격을 높여주는 말들

 

프라이버시를 물을때..   could i ask? / do you mind if i ask? 

실례지만..   may (might) i ask?

격식을 갖춰서..   indeed very,   really보다 좋아

설득력을 높여주는..   perhaps,   maybe

단호한 의견을 부드럽게..  i find it..

좋고 싫음을 품위있게 표현할때..  be not keen on

세련되게 권할때..  you must> you should

품위있는 여성이 쓰면좋은..  lovely

이름이 생각안날때..  your name has slipped my tongue.  you're

                              .............. is on the tip of my tongue.   you're

                             let me see.   your name is..

                             i've mispaced your name card.  do you have an extra with you?

교양있게 남을 평가하는..      on the .. side

귀여운 여인의 감탄사..   why(어머)

네이티브가 자주스는 외래어..  faux pas(실례),  carpe diem(챤스를 잡아라, 지금을 즐겨라),

                 prima donna (자기 중심적인 여성), aficionado (정렬적인 애호가, 열렬한팬),

                 voila(,보시라),ciao!(그럼안녕),hasta la vista(또봐),

                 buenos dias (안녕하세요, 낮인사) noches( , 밤인사),

분위기있는 장소를 묘사할때..  quaint

 

 

 

7. 기분이나 생각을 제대로 전해주는 말들

 

기분을 강조할때..  couldn't be>so

찬성이나 반대할때..  i buy that/ i don't buy that

마침 필요했어..  it's just what the doctor ordered

칭찬할때..  (성공칭찬) good for you, awesome, great going!, i knew you could do it!

                               this is incredible, way to go, well done, you did it

  (인격칭찬) i admire you, there's nobody like you,

                  you have a lot of patience, you're very creative

  (업무칭찬) brilliant idea, fantastic job, good job, good thinking,

                  this is perfect, this is super

  (칭찬겸한 격려) i appreciate your effort, looking good, keep up the good work,

                        you tried hard, you tried your best 

칭찬에

*감사할때..  thank you for the compliment. that means a lot coming from you.

                 what a nice compliment!

*겸손할때..  that's not true. not really.  you're just joking. don't say that

*충고할때 (꿍꿍이있는 칭찬에 대해)..  stop brownnosing.아첨은관둬요 

                                                   don't patronize me. 치켜세지마셈

역할분담에 동의할때..  that's that

이런 제발..   oh, please

썰렁한 농담 (lame joke) 대꾸는.. give me a break.  oh, brother.   oh, no.  oh, jeez.

                                              are we supposed to laugh? /is that a joke?

무리한 요구를 받았을때..   have a heart.  don't be so heartless.  don't you have a heart?

불만을 나타낼때..   too bad.   suck

나라면 그렇게 안해..  i wouldn't

곤란한 상황에서..  oh, god = boy./ good grief = god (이런 곤란하군)

귀찮게 됐다고 말할때..  pain in the neck/ 어깨통증 stiff neck/ 어깨주무르기 neck rub

어려운 말을 꺼낼때.. you see..

결론을 말할때..  the truth is.. / to tell you the truth

의견을 강조, 확실히 해둔다구 할때..  make no mistake

진심으로 감사할때..  i owe you / IOU note 차용증

결단을 촉구할때..  it's now or never / now is the time to act /

                                   you have to act now / there's no waiting

정반대 두상황 표현도 가능..  some

비슷한 처지라구 위로할때..  join the club

 

 

 

8. 친근감을 높여주는 말들

 

친구를 우연히 만나면..  how's it going / how goes it / how are you/ how's the good word?

이야기 꺼낼때.. (well), you know (what?)/ guess what?/ listen../ i'm telling you..

괜찮아요..        no problem

좋아요, 식은죽 먹기지..   no problemo

(부탁을 기꺼이 받아들일때) 갠찮을거 가텨유   ..    sounds good (fine)

가볍게 의견을 물을때..

                how does that grab you?> how do you think it happened?> what do you think?

음식맛을 칭찬할때..  it's finger lickin' good> delicious

내가 낼께..  it's on me/ let me get it/ let me treat you/ i'll get it

축약발음들 (친근감 더하는)..  forget about it = fuhgeddaboudit

                                       would you give me that = wajagimmetha

                                       what did you do = whaddayado

                                       i don't know = i dunno/ i've got to do = i gotta go

                                       it's going to rain = it's gonna rain

                                       do you want to go = yawannago

응원..   break a leg!/ hang in there/ keep trying/ don't give up/ i know you can do it/

         i'm counting on you/ have fun/ do it/ come on/ go!go!/ good luck!

운에 대한 표현들..  good luck/ out of luck/ just my luck (운도없지)/

                            it was just luck (운이 좋았을 뿐입니다 - 겸손)

                            what a stroke of luck! 저런

가볍게 위로할때..    i hate it when that happens

 

 

 

9. 적절한  일상대화법

 

가벼운 제안에 답할때..   sure/  sounds good/  that would be nice

증말루 고마울때..     i'd (really) appreciate that

고맙단 말에 대꾸할때..   it's nothing/  no problem/  no worry/  it's easy/  no big deal

                                 it's all right/ my pleasure/ 농담 - i'll be sending my bill 

가벼운 거절..   i'm fine/ thanks but no thanks

동감이야..    you got that right/ you're telling me/ you're right

바로 그거야..  hit the nail on the head

장담한다..    you bet!/  wanna bet?/ no problem

증말?..        for sure?/  are you sure?/ for real?/ really?

진심이야?..   are you serious?/ you're crazy/ you're kidding

좋은 생각이군..  good thinking (idea) / i got it! (좋은 생각이 있어)

(부탁하는 사람에게) 그런걱정 허덜말어  ..    say no more,  no more,  okay,  sure

공감할때..   say no more> okay,  sure

놓친말을 다시 물어볼때..  you said it> you can say that again/ you got that right >

                                     that's right / that's the truth

                            what was that? / come again? / go where? / said what?/ to where?/

                           >excuse me? / i beg your pardon

길을 모른다할때..  sorry, i'm clueless / i'm afraid i can't help

술이나 음료를 따를때..괜찮습니다..  say when--> that's enough (fine)-

                                          that's a little too much - could i have about half that much? 

                                           - this much is okay?

이대로 괜찮아..  i like it as is

행동을 재촉할때..  let's get going > let's hurry

세상참 좁아..  it's a small world

건강 하세요..   gesundheit,  bless you (기침한 사람에게), good health
