상대방이 약간 무리한 부탁을 했지만, 승락할 때 쓰이는 표현이다.
A : Can I use your restroom?

A: 화장실 좀 쓸 수 있을까요?
B: 네, 그러세요.
Beats me.(=You've got me.) 나도 몰라.
A : Do you know where Emily is?
B : Beats me. I haven't seen her all day
A : Emily는 어디있니?
B : 나도 몰라. 하루 종일 못 본걸.
Big deal! 대단한대!
A : Congratulations! I heard you got accepted to Harvard. Big deal!
B : Thanks, I'm really excited about going.
A : 축하해. 너 Harvard에 입학 허가를 받았다고 들었어. 대단하구나.
B : 고마워. 나도 거기 간다는 생각에 들떠 있어.
Count me in. 나도 포함시켜줘.
제안이나 초대에 대해 승락할 때 주로 쓰이며, 같이 가거나 어떤 행동을 하겠다는 뜻이다.
A : Would you like to go camping with us this weekend?
B : Count me in.
A : 이번 주말에 우리랑 캠핑 갈래?
B : 그래, 나도 갈거야.
Count me out. 난 제외시켜줘.
제안이나 초대에 대해 거절할 때 쓰는 표현으로, "count me in "과 반대의 뜻이다.
A : We're going to a party tonight. Want to come?
B : I have to study for a Economics test. Count me out.
A : 우리는 오늘 밤 파티에 갈건데, 너도 갈래?
B : 난 경제학 시험 공부해야해. 난 빼고 가.
Don't be silly.무슨 소리야. 말도 안돼! 엉뚱한 소리 하지마.
상대방의 말이 사실과 다르거나 틀릴 때 주로 쓰는 표현이다.
A : Are you avoiding me, Jan?
I haven't been able to get a hold of you all weekend.
B : Don't be silly. I told you I was going out-of-town for a few days.
A : Oh, that's right! It completely slipped my mind.
A : Jan, 너 나를 피하는 거니? 주말 내내 널 볼 수가 없었어.
B : 무슨 엉뚱한 소리야. 내가 며칠 동안 시내에 없을 거라고 말했었잖아.
A : 맞다. 내가 완전히 잊고 있었어.
Don't bet on it. 기대하지마.
A : Do you think the professor will give me an extension on my paper?
B : Don't bet on it. He never makes exceptions for anyone.
A: 네가 생각하기에 교수님이 리포트 기한을 연장해 주실까?

A : Somebody broke my CD player!

A : 누군가 내 CD 플레이어를 망가뜨렸어.

Don't take it out on me. 나한테 화내지마. 난 잘못 없어.
A : I'm so frustrated. I swear I could kill somebody right now.
B : I know you're upset, but don't take it out on me.
A : 난 정말 절망이야. 지금 기분으론 누구라도 죽이고 싶어.
B : 네가 화난 건 알겠는데, 나한테 화내지는 마.
Don't tell me. 말 안해도 알 것 같아.
상대방이 뭔가 나쁜 소식을 말하거나 듣고 싶지 않은 내용을 말하려고 할 때, 이미 그 내용을 짐작하고 있다는 뜻의 표현이다.
A : I have some bad news.
B : Don't tell me. You have to cancel our date again?
A : 좋지 않은 소식이 있어.
B : 뭔지 알겠어. 너 또 우리 약속을 취소하려는 거니?
First thing's first. 우선 급한 일이 먼저야. 중요한 걸 먼저 해.
A : Have you decided on what courses to take next semester?
B : First thing's first. I want to make sure I pass all my classes this semester
before I decide on what to take.
A : 너 다음 학기에 어떤 과목을 들을 지 정했니?
B : 우선 급한 일이 먼저야. 다음에 무엇을 들을 지 정하기 전에 이번 학기 수업 먼저 다
통과했으면 하는게 내 바람이야.
Get out of here. 말도 안돼! 농담하지마!
A : You won't believe this. I just won the lottery!
B : Get out of here. Are you being serious?

안부를 묻는 표현이다.

I don't blame you. 괜찮아.
상대방이 사과를 받아들이고 괜찮다고 하는 표현이다.
A : I'm sorry I got into an accident with your car.
B : I don't blame you. It wasn't your fault.
A : 미안해. 네 차를 가지고 사고를 냈어.
B : 괜찮아. 네 잘못이 아니었으니까.
I got ~ to do it. ~에게 그 일을 부탁했어.
A : Did you still need someone to take you to the airport?
B : No, don't worry about it. I got Bob to do it.
A : 아직 공항에 데려다 줄 사람이 필요하니?
B : 아니야, 걱정마. Bob에게 부탁했어.
I wouldn't put it past him.
그가 그렇지 않을 거라고 단정지을 수 없다.
A : Some people are saying that Eric is the one behind the recent thefts.
B : Do you really think he'd do something like that?
A : I wouldn't put it past him. He doesn't exactly have the best reputation.
A : 어떤 사람들은 최근의 도난 사건에 대해 Eric을 의심한다고 했어.
B : 그가 정말 그런 일을 했을까?
A : 그렇지 않을 거라고 단정짓지마. 그는 평판이 좋지 않다구.
I wouldn't say that. 그렇다고 할 순 없어. 그렇지 않아.
A : Mary and I never seem to see eye to eye on anything.
B : Do you guys dislike each other?
A : I wouldn't say that. We're just completely different people.
A : Mary와 난 어떤 일에도 의견을 같이 할 수 없어.
B : 너희들 서로 싫어하니?
A : 그렇다고 할 순 없어. 우리는 그냥 완전히 다른 사람들이야.
I'm up to my ears in work. 할 일이 너무 많아.
A : You look really tired. Did you not get enough sleep?
B : I was at the office all night. I'm up to my ears in work right now.
A : 너 정말 피곤해 보이는구나. 잠은 충분히 잤니?

B : 잘 모르겠어. 아직 미정이야.
It's up to you. 너한테 달렸어. 네가 결정해.

B : I don't really care. It's up to you.

Let me put it this way.이렇게 한번 생각해보자.쉽게 말하자면.
보통 좋지 않은 내용이나 말하기 어려운 것을 좋게 표현할 때 쓰는 말이다.
A : What do you think are the chances of me getting a date with Linda?
B : Let me put it this way. You have a better chance of getting hit by lightning.
A : Linda랑 데이트할 기회가 나한테 올 거라 생각하니?
B : 쉽게 말하자면 말야. 번개에 맞는 게 더 쉬울걸.
No big deal.(=No problem. Don't mention it)
별일 아니야. 괜찮아. 아무렇지도 않아.
A : I'm sorry I was so late today.
B : It's no big deal. I caught up on my reading.
A : 늦어서 미안해.
B : 괜찮아. 책 읽고 있었어.
No wonder. 아! 그래서 그랬구나.
A : Tom just broke up with his girlfriend.
B : No wonder he looked so sad today!
A : Tom이 여자 친구랑 헤어졌대.
B : 그래서 오늘 그렇게 슬퍼보였구나!
None to speak of. (말할만한 것이) 없어.
A : Do you have any experience doing this kind of work?
B : None to speak of, but I'm very eager to learn.
A : 이런 일을 해 본 적이 있으신가요?
B : 없어요. 하지만 정말 배우고 싶어요.
Not much chance of that. 그럴 가능성이 거의 없어.
A : Did you ask your parents about the trip to Europe?
B : They told me I could go if I make a 4.0 this semester
and there's not much chance fo that happening.
A : 유럽 여행에 대해 부모님께 말씀드렸니?
B : 부모님은 내가 이번 학기에 4.0을 받으면 여행을 갈 수 있다고 하셨어.
하지만 그럴 가능성은 없어.
Not on your life. 절대 그럴 리가 없어.
A : A bunch of us are going to that heavy metal concert on Friday.
Do you want to come along?
B : Not on your life! You couldn't pay me to go.
A : 우리 몇 명은 금요일날 헤비메탈 콘서트에 가려고 하는데, 너도 같이 갈래?
B : 절대 안가! 돈을 준다해도 안 갈거야.
Search me.(=I don't know. Beats me.) 몰라.
A : Do you know where we go to pay our tuition?
B : Search me. I paid mine online.
A : 등록금 내는 곳이 어딘지 아니?
B : 나도 몰라. 나는 온라인으로 냈거든.
