Korea has a 5000-year-old history. For five thousand years, our forefather has created many creative things which represent Korea now.
For instance, Kimchi which has been eaten for over 500 years is now the standard of global wellbeing food. It was acclaimed as the amazing anti-virus food when the SARS prevailed. and many professionals lavished praise on anticancer ability of Kimchi.
And Hunminjungeum, the system of the korean letters is well known for its scientific invention and the king's love toward the people.
Taekwondo, Bulgogi, Pansori and etc, these all things are both the greatest legacy of our ancestor and the world.

한국은 5000년의 역사를 가지고 있습니다. 지난 오천년동안 한국의 조상님들은 수많은 창의적인 것들을 만드셨고 또 그것들은 오늘날 한국을 대표하는 것들이 되었습니다.
한 예로, 지난 500년의 세월동안 한국인이 먹어온 김치는 오늘날 세계 건강음식의 대표주자가 되었습니다. SARS가 한창 위세를 떨칠 때 김치는 SARS에 특효약으로 찬양받기도 했고 많은 전문가들로부터 그 항암효과를 인정받고 있습니다.
또 한국의 문자체계인 훈민정음은 그 과학성과 애민정신으로 유명하지요.
태권도, 불고기, 판소리 등등 수많은 것들을 우리 조상님들께서 물려주셨고 이들은 오늘날 세계의 유산이 되었습니다.
And we ,who live now have made a miracle. We overcome a lot of difficulties after the Korean war, achieved a prosperity. Even we hosted 1988 Seoul Olympic games and 2002 World Cup very successfully. Now Korea is taking a leading position in the field of high-tech. For example, Korea's IT industry such as internet services, mobile phones and semiconductors is the best of the world.
그리고 오늘을 사는 우리 또한 조상님들에 뒤지지 않습니다. 우리는 기적을 만들었지요. 전후의 수많은 고난을 극복하고 번영을 이루어냈습니다. 심지어 88올림픽과 2002월드컵을 아주 성공적으로 치렀습니다. 이제 한국은 첨단 기술의 선도 국가입니다. 인터넷, 휴대전화, 반도체로 대표되는 한국의 IT기술은 세계 최강이지요.

I'll tell you about Korean meals.
we usually have rice, vegetable or meat soup, kimchi for breakfast. these days a lot of people have some toast and coffee, ham and eggs, and some salad for it.
The best dishes are served at dinner. Usually we have two or three different dishes, but on some occasions, we have five or six different dishes.
Korea is very rich not only in sea food but in land food, and so we can take various kinds of food according to the change of the four seasons. Korean cooking has its own old traditions, and we can have many different dishes peculiar to each district.
However, we don't eat Korean dishes every day. We're quite familiar with European dishes. Besides we can taste dishes of many countries of the world in big cities, and so you won't have to worry about food when you are in Korea.

저는 한국의 식사에 대해서 이야기하겠습니다. 우리는 아침 식사로 보통 쌀밥, 야채국 또는 고깃국, 김치를 먹습니다. 요즘에는 빵과 커피, 햄에그, 샐러드를 먹는 사람도 많아졌습니다.
저녁은 가장 좋은 요리가 마련됩니다. 보통은 2~3가지, 어떤 때에는 5~6가지의 요리가 준비됩니다. 한국은 바다와 육지의 식품이 많아서 우리는 사계절의 변화에 따라 다양한 음식을 먹을 수 있습니다. 한국 요리는 오랜 전통을 가지고 있으며, 각 지방마다 독특한 요리가 있습니다.
하지만 우리는 날마다 한국 요리만 먹는 건 아닙니다. 서양 요리에도 친숙해져 있습니다. 게다가 대도시에서는 전 세계의 요리를 맛볼 수 있으므로 당신이 한국에 오시더라도 식사에 관해서는 걱정할 필요가 없습니다.

If you want to understand Korea, you should first look over our culture, because culutre is the mirror the nation's history, characteristics and so on. So what exactly our culture is? It is to resemble nature. If you visit Korea, you can see many ancient buildings ( like Kyeong bok palace) are in harmony with ridges of mountains around them. You can also find curved lines, which resembles nature's line so much, in our traditional clothing "Han bok". That means Koreans are the people who want to be a part of nature not just inhabitants of the nature. However do not think we are just quiet people cuz' in nowadays' Korea, you can see vigorous lives of Korea, traditional culture and modern culutre harmonizing with each other. So, how do you think about us? Aren't you interested in Korea?

만약 네가 한국을 이해하고 싶다면, 넌 우리의 문화부터 살펴봐야 해. 왜냐하면 문화라는 건 그 나라의 역사, 그 민족의 성격등을 반영하기 때문이지. 만약 네가 한국을 방문한다면 넌 경복궁과 같은 많은 고건축물들이 그들을 둘러싸고 있는 산의 능선들과 조화를 이루고 있는 모습을 보게 될 꺼야. 또 거기에서 넌 우리 전통 옷인 한복에서도 찾아볼 수 있는 자연의 선을 꼭 닮은 곡선들을 발견하게 될꺼야. 그건 우리가 단지 자연의 거주자인것만이 아니라 자연의 일부분이고 싶어하는 사람들이란 것을 말해주지.
그렇지만 우리가 그냥 내성적인 조용한 사람들일거라고만 생각하지는 말아줘. 왜냐하면 오늘날의 한국에서는 전통문화와 현대문화가 어우러지는 활기찬 모습들이 보이기 때문이지.
우리에 대해서 어떻게 생각하니? 한국에 관심이 생기지 않니??

During the mailing each other, we became curious about each other's country. if you are a Japanese, I would ask you what is 'Sinsa', If you are a American, I wanna know how big your country is.
서로 메일을 주고받으면서, 우린 서로의 나라에 대해 궁금해 할 거야. 만약 네가 일본인이라면, 난 '신사'가 뭔지 물어볼 것이고, 네가 미국인이라면 너희 나라가 얼마나 큰지 알고 싶겠지.

If you wanna know about our country and ask me to introduce some place, I would recommend you to visit Gyeongju, a city above Busan.
만약 네가 우리 나라에 대해 알고 싶어해서, 한 장소를 소개해 달라면 나는 경주를 방문해 볼 것을 원하고 싶어. 경주는 부산 위쪽에 위치하고 있지.

It had been a capital city of Silla dynasty, which had existed about 1000 years. The country didn't move its capital city, so you can enjoy the essence of ancient culture of Korea at there.
그곳은 1000년동안 계속되었던 신라 왕조의 수도였던 곳이야. 그 나라는 수도를 옮기지 않았고, 그래서 너는 그곳에서 한국의 고대 문화의 정수들을 즐길 수 있을 거야.

There're some UNESCO World cultural heritage, such as Bulguksa temple, and Seokgul-Am, and Gyeongju historical culture area. You can see a lot of remainders driving in the city. to say in clear, It's a museum, which doesn't have roof.
그곳엔 몇몇 UNESCO 세계문화유산들이 있는데, 불국사, 석굴암, 그리고 경주 역사문화지구가 바로 그곳이지. 너는 도시를 다니면서 수많은 유적들을 볼 수 있는데, 간단히 말하건대, 이곳은 지붕이 없는 박물관이나 마찬가지야.

And Gyeongju is near the sea and mountains, so you can enjoy swimming in summer, and enjoy hiking in autumn.
I think Gyeongju is a Korea's Rome. maybe you will be pleasure if you choose Gyeongju, as your travel's destination. :)
그리고 경주는 바다와 산과 접해 있어서, 여름엔 수영을 할 수도 있고, 가을에는 등산을 갈 수도 있지. 나는 경주가 한국의 로마라고 생각해. 만약 네가 경주를 너희 여행의 목적지로 선택한다면, 너희들은 기쁠 거야. :)

Korea is a beautiful and clean country. During our distinct four seasons, we enjoy many flowers in spring and go to beach in summer. In fall, all the trees turn into vivid red and it snows in the winter. Do you want to come to Korea one day? If you come, I'll be your guide.
한국은 아름답고 깨끗한 곳이야. 4계절이 있어서 봄이면 꽃들로 가득해.
여름엔 해변에서 수영을 하지. 가을에는 모든 나무들이 붉게 물들어 겨울에는 하얀 눈이 내린단다. 한국에 올 마음은 없니? 만약 온다면 내가 모든것을 도와 줄께.
Many people think that Korean culture is very similar to either Japan or China, or both. However, Korean culture is very distinctive and unique in many ways. There is something different about Korean lifestyle and culture. Koreans are very family oriented and collectivistic. We value relationships. That's why I also think of the best is realationship among the people and try to a effort keep the relationship.
많은 사람들은 한국 문화가 일본문화나 중국문화와 흡사할 것이라고 생각해. 하지만 한국 문화는 여러 방면에서 볼 때 매우 독창적이며 한국 문화와 삶의 방식에는 다른 나라에서 찾을 수 없는 다른 것이 있어. 가족중심적이고 집단을 중시하는 한국사람들의 모습인데, 한국사람들은 관계를 퍽 중시하지. 그래서 나 또한 사람들 사이에서의 관계를 최고로 중요히 여기며 그 관계를 계속 유지하도록 노력하고 있어.

Since there are diverse aspects when it comes to Korean culture, I will concentrate on several points here ; general history, food, language and so on.
Korea has a very long history. Rather than just enumerating historical facts, I just want to say that Korea always has built and cherished its own culture. Many people in the wolrd misunderstand that Korea is just one of those boundary nations near China and Japan. However, we truly have unique culture and history. And, from now on, I will try hard to introduce those specialties to the world. When I asked to an American during my travel in USA " what do you know about Korea? ",she said "well, the 2002 world cup, Korean war and Kimchi.." At that moment, I felt that there are so many things that foreigners don't know about Korea. They just have this outdated and distorted information.
As many people in the world knows, Kimchi is the representative food in Korea. Kimchi is the aftermath of wisdom and way of living. There are varieties of Kimchis depending on the region. Also, Bulgogi and Korean rice are being popular in the international world, too.
If people ask me what is the most precious and import!ant remains in Korea, I would say without hesitation that Hangul is the one. Learning various languages like English, Japanese, German, I realized that Hangul is very scientific and effective letters.
Since there are innumerable achievements and charateristics in Korean culture, it is impossible for me to introduce everything here. But, I can say with confidence that Korea has shown its potential capabilities throughout the history and still, Korea is running toward the bright future creating our won culture.
한국문화에는 다양한 면모가 있기 때문에 저는 역사, 음식, 언어 쪽에 초점을 맞추어 설명하겠습니다. 한국은 매우 오랜 역사를 가진 나라입니다. 단지 역사적 사실을 늘어놓기보다는 저는 이 한 마디를 하고 싶습니다. 한국은 언제나 독자적인 문화를 가꾸어 왔습니다. 세계 많은 사람들이 한국은 중국과 일본 사이에 있는 주변 국가 중 하나일뿐이라는 오해를 갖고 계십니다. 그러나 우리는 우리만의 역사와 문화를 향유하고 있습니다. 그러므로 지금부터 저는 이러한 특별함을 전 세계에 알리고자 노력할 것입니다. 제가 미국 여행을 하는 중 한 미국인에게 "한국에 대해 무엇을 알고 계시나요?" 라고 물었더니 그 분은 이렇게 대답했습니다. " 음.. 2002 월드컵, 한국전쟁, 그리고 김치!" 그 순간 저는 많은 외국인들이 아직도 한국에 대해 잘 알지 못하고 있으며 그들이 알고 있는 것도 한 물간 것이거나 왜곡된 것임을 느꼈습니다.
많은 분들이 알고 있듯이, 김치는 한국을 대표하는 음식입니다. 김치는 지혜와 삶의 방식에서 우러나온 결과지요. 각 지역마다 다양한 김치의 종류들이 있습니다. 불고기와 떡 등도 전세계에서 유명해지고 있는 한국 음식들입니다.
만약 사람들이 저에게 한국의 유산 중 가장 소중하고 귀한 것이 무엇이냐고 묻는다면 저는 주저없이 한글이라고 말할 겁니다. 영어, 일본어, 독일어 등 다양한 언어들을 배우면서 저는 한글이 매우 과학적이고 효율적인 문자임을 느꼈답니다.
한국 역사에는 셀 수 없을만큼의 성취물과 특징이 있기 때문에 제가 이 곳에 다 소개하기란 불가능군요. 그러나 저는 한국이 역사를 통해 그 잠재적 능력을 보여주었고 또 현재도 우리만의 문화를 향유해가면서 밝은 미래를 향해 달려가고 있다고 확신합니다.

I'm really delightful to introduce my country, Korea. It is located in the Korea peninsula. 'East Sea(which incorrectly called 'Sea of Japan')', 'Yellow Sea', and 'Southern Sea' is surrounding our country. We can also call our country 'Tae-Han-Min-Guk', ‘Han-guk', 'South Korea', and 'Republic of Korea'. Our language is Korean which is regarded as the most scientific word in the world. Also, We have a 5,000-year-history.
First of all, I really want to talk about our Korean people. We are very confident and proud of our country. We work with creativeness and endeavor. Most import!antly, we are the onE!! As many foreigner saw in 2002,2006 World Cup, problem of Dok-do, and VANK, we desire same goal as Korean and effort to do it. Furthermore, we believe that it will come true.
Second, 'Hallyu(Korean Wave)' is very famous in other countries. As Korean singers, dramas, movies, actors, and actresses are getting famous, it have become the great part that exchanging culture with other countries.
Finally, our country have high qualities for making ships(lank 1st in the world), semiconductor production technology, and so forth. Regardless of ranking or news, people have pride of our country and keep thinking about our history, culture, and problems. 'China's Northeast Asian Project(which is changing the Korean history, Koguryo)' and 'Japan's Dok-do Project' are examples of problems. As many people do, I also try to figure out these problems.
As you know korea is dividing into two parts: South Korea and North Korea. I expect that both Korea will be unified as we effort. If you have any question just contact me. Lastly, thank you for having interest for my country, and enjoy our country!!

우리나라, 대한민국을 소개하게 되어 정말 기쁩니다. 한국은 한반도에 위치하고 있습니다. 동해(‘일본해’라고 틀리게 표기되는), 황해, 그리고 남해가 우리나라를 둘러싸고 있습니다. 우리나라를 ‘대한민국’, ‘한국’, ‘남한’, ‘한국 공화국’이라고 부르기도 합니다. 우리의 언어는 세계에서 가장 과학적인 언어로 일컬어지는 한국어입니다. 또한, 우리나라는 5천년 역사를 지니고 있습니다.
첫 번째로, 저는 한국 사람들에 대해 이야기 하고 싶습니다. 우리는 매우 당당하고, 우리나라를 자랑스러워합니다. 우리는 창의성과 노력으로 일합니다. 가장 중요한 것은, 우리는 하나라는 것입니다!! 많은 외국인들이 2002, 2006 월드컵, 독도문제, VANK에서 봤듯이, 우리는 한국인으로서 같은 목표를 추구하고 그것을 위해 노력합니다. 더 나아가 우리는 그것이 이루어질 것이라고 믿습니다.
두 번째로, '한류‘는 다른 나라에서 매우 유명합니다. 한국 가수들, 드라마들, 영화들, 배우들이 유명해 지면서, 이것은 다른 나라들과 문화를 교류하는데 매우 중요한 부분이 되었습니다.
마지막으로, 우리나라는 조선 기술(세계 1위), 반도체 제작 기술, 그 외 등등에서 높은 시력을 가지고 있습니다. 순위나 뉴스에 관계없이, 우리는 우리나라에 대해 자긍심을 가지고 있고, 우리 역사와 문화, 그리고 문제들에 대해서 항상 생각합니다. ‘동북공정(고구려 한국 역사를 바꾸려는)’과 ‘일본의 독도 문제’ 등이 이러한 문제들의 예입니다. 많은 사람들이 그러하듯, 저 또한 문제들을 해결하려고 노력합니다.
