Evening bells evening bells,
How many a story you've got to tell
Of youth and home and that sweet time,
When last I heard your soothing chime

    저녁 종소리 저녁 종소리
    내가 마지막으로 저 종소리를 들었을 때
    젊은 시절과 고향의 달콤한 시간을
    너희들은 얼마나 알고 있을까?

       Those lovely days they are past away,
      And many a heart that then was gay
      Within the tomb now darkly dwells
      And no more to hears evening bells

    그 종소리는 사라지고 행복했던 지난 날들
    그리고 그때는 많은 마음들이 행복했었지.
    지금은 어둠속에서 지내기에
    더 이상 저녁 종소리를 들을 수 없네.

      And so it will be when I am gone,
      That tunefull sound will still ring on
      While other bards will walk these dells
      And sing your praise sweet evening bells

    내가 이 세상을 떠날 때도 그러하겠지.
    음악이 가득한 저 종소리는 울릴 것이고
    또 다른 시인들이 이 골짜기를 거닐며

   미국의 낭만파 시인 토마스 무어(Thomas Moore 1779-1852)가
   쓴 시를 천상의 목소리를 가진 아일렌드에서 출생하여
   카나다에서 활동중인 쉘라 라이언(Sheila Ryan)이 불렀다.
   이노래는1998년 그녀의 3집 앨범 Down by the Glenside에 
   수록된 곡으로 그녀가 직접 아이리쉬 하프를 연주하며 부른 
   곡이다.
